America Votes - Nevada
MEET THE AMERICA VOTES NEVADA STATE STAFF
Nevada exemplified the popular narrative of incumbents versus the Tea Party and their "take back our country" slogan. Harry Reid, the most powerful man in the Senate, was the top target for Republicans nationally. The economy dominated the campaigns and the air waves with Nevada leading the country in unemployment and foreclosure rates.
Despite the national wave, Nevadans re-elected Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, maintained all Democratic constitutional officers, and maintained majorities in both legislative chambers. However Democrats sustained a net loss of three state legislative seats, and lost CD-3 as well.
Turnout was a key factor in Democrats winning in Nevada and was 5.3% higher statewide in 2010 than in 2006 - 721,910 votes cast (64.4%) in 2010 versus 586,274 (59.1%) in 2006, according to the Secretary of State.
