America Votes - Ohio
In 2011, Republicans brazenly pushed an extreme agenda by passing laws limiting reproductive rights, lifting environmental safeguards, taking away voting rights, and eliminating collective bargaining rights from public employees (Senate Bill 5), and balanced the budget at the expense of schools and critically important services. Ohio voters overturned Senate Bill 5 with 61%, repudiating the job-killing agenda of Governor John Kasich and the extreme state legislators.
The fight over Senate Bill 5, over-reach on other regressive laws, the continued stagnation of the economy, as well as persistent high unemployment has set the stage for next year's presidential election. From the top to the bottom of the ticket, Ohio will be a highly contested state in 2012, with races that also include the battleground for the Presidency, US Senate seat, 16 Congressional seats, 16 of the 33 State Senate seats, 99 House seats, 3 of the 7 Supreme Court seats, and many potential statewide ballot measures.
